The Hero with a Thousand Faces
By Joseph Campbell
Once upon a time a person was born into the relative security of home. When the time seemed right, he (she) headed for the wider world and there encountered all the joys and sorrows, all the ups and downs of the roadway. When help was needed, sometimes it came in ways as simple as one human hand reaching for another, and sometimes in ways so remarkable that they could only be considered supernatural. When the days grew short, the person turned again for home bearing all the gifts of the road to give to the people he (she) loved.
